How Do I Get My Kids To Listen To Me?

I have never written a biography about myself that reads Jen Banks, Parenting Expert. I have never claimed to even have the slightest clue as to what I am doing when it comes to this whole parenting gig. But I do know one thing...My mother was right. When my first son was born, paranoia made me bring him into our bed. I always needed to be next to know he was breathing. My mother said that I would regret that decision to co-sleep and … [Read more...]

Taking It Away

Over the past year my 6 year old has gone from the happy, smiley, bright little boy, to a cranky, always frowning, even hateful boy.  He's not happy, he's not content, he's cranky.  And I think I know what the problem might be. In the same time frame that I've seen this drastic change in him, he has discovered something called a Let's Play on Youtube.  Essentially they are commentated video's of people playing video games, some are sponsored, … [Read more...]

Can My 5 Year Old Be Depressed?

In an instant, a split second, my heart broke today. "I wish I didn't exist, I don't want to live anymore." Those were the words that came out of my beautiful 5 year old boys lips today.  They crushed me, they took me aback.  For a second, I didn't know what to say. We were at the bank, I was digging around in my purse for my card when he said it.  I sat down on the floor, people looked at me, I didn't care.  I needed to know why he said … [Read more...]

Tonight I didn’t hit a boy on a bike…

This is an open letter to the Mother of the two boys who drove their bikes out in front of my car tonight.  The two boys who are still alive tonight because I was paying attention.  But, I'm still shaking... I spent the day today at my Mothers.  We visited, I looked at her blossoming Hydrangea's and we chatted.  I do this often as I'm very lucky that my Mom only lives about 10 minutes from me.  Around 8pm I put the kids and the car and headed … [Read more...]

How I Scarred My Kid For Life…(or did I?)

It was all very innocent.  I had no intention on it happening.  But the Wolf caught the damn baby Reindeer. It was Earth Day.  I found out that itunes had a free download for one episode of  Earth.  I jumped to get it.  I've wanted to watch Planet Earth for a while now, just haven't gotten around to buying it.  Either way, I thought it would be a great learning experience for Ben.  Turns out it was me who had the learning experience. It … [Read more...]

When Your Kids Get In Trouble…

Why is it that when my son gets in trouble, I feel horrible? Well, maybe not horrible, but definitley guilty... Ben is almost 5.  He's counting down, 11 days to go.  He knows the rules of the house, and I'm not a strick mom (maybe that's my problem) his rules are simple.  No Thumping (People live below us) No Yelling in the house (The baby is sleeping) No Cussing (Yes, he knows a few, and I blame The Cat In The Hat Movie...He couldn't have … [Read more...]

What a busy weekend Mixing a few posts into one! Contest winner, and a new contest!!

I have to say, I have not been so tired as I am right now in a long time. As some of you know, I have recently taken over my step fathers Billiards Club. My working hours have more than doubled, and I am tired. I have to ask, how do people who work full time with young kids do it?? My space is a mess. My laundry pile has gone from my knees to my waist. I've made 1 home cooked meal in the last week. (And boy was it yummy) And most of all, I miss … [Read more...]

Our Adventure

Ben and I decided to go for an Adventure today. We took a walk through the paths in the wooded area by our house. We were looking for Toadstools, Salamanders, Squirrels, Chipmunks, and Bears and Moose according to Ben. We spent about an hour out playing in the woods. It rained a little but we were well covered by trees. I love Trees. I'm teaching Ben to be a tree hugger, but I think I've told you that already. So, we found some interesting … [Read more...]

Rainy Day

Well, Yesterday It rained. And rained, and rained. But for little boog's like mine, those are the best kind of days. Ben had a ball jumping and splashing in the puddles. I think he hit every puddle for 1.5Km. We had to walk from Mommy's work to Daddy's work, and we had a ball. We were even offered a ride, and turned it down, though it was appreciated. Check out some of Ben's Rainy Day Fun. He went through 2 pairs of pants yesterday. But it was … [Read more...]

Another Day In a Busy Mommy’s Life

Well, today was another one of those slow starting mornings. Because of the night before, the Boog's sleeping schedule is all messed up. So he didn't hit the hay until almost 1am. Then I spent another hour online, though I don't think I accomplished much. We got up around 8:30 am and I attacked the laundry monster. It's an ongoing battle, right now the monster is winning, but I should be able to get a good hit or two in tomorrow. I had probably 7 … [Read more...]
