It’s been a fantastic eight years. That’s how long I’ve been blogging. It started out as a simple blog on a free platform where I shared my deals, coupons and sales. It started small, but I was thrilled to find an avenue to share what I had to say. The funny thing was, people listened. They listened and shared and commented. Eventually that little blog turned into my main source of income. A Busy Mommy feeds my kids and heats our home. It is also a full time job that I share with 2 part time jobs and a house. I’ll never regret naming my site, A Busy Mommy. It holds as true today as it did way back then. Over the years I’ve tried many different methods of monotization. Some work. Some don’t. Some work better for others than they do for me. The thing to remember when you’re looking to earn a living blogging, is to keep going. Sign up for the next new thing and keep going. This ever changing enviornment required us to be 5 steps ahead of the game.
That being said, I do want to share with you five ways that I believe to be the best ways to earn money blogging.
Sponsored Content – Just about every post out there is now sponsored in one form or another. Direct or indirect. Sometimes it may just be a quick product mention in a recipe -that the brand send us to play around with. Other times is straight up cash for a post. Either way – as a reader you should know – that just because it’s paid for, we still mean it. I mean, most of us aren’t just spewing words out there for the sake of a few bucks. Really – it’s very hard to write about something we can’t at least relate to.
Ad Networks – Find one you like and stick with them. Seriously. Flip flopping around networks is a big P.I.T.A. They’re great once their in place (and bonus if the offer sponsored content) but stick with the one you like. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. I’ve been with the same network for years – and though opportunities come in waves, they always pay… on time. It is an income I can rely on.
Syndication – Get your content EVERYWHERE. Sure, maybe google doesn’t like things doubled up all over the place – but change it up a bit… take older posts that are still relevent, freshen them up and share share share! Sites like StoryBy are perfect for this. They pay bloggers for content. The more it’s shared, the more you make!
Ambassadorship/Spokes Person – Ambassadorships tend to pay a bit more than a sponsored blog post – usually because they require a lot more work. A set number of posts, social shares and more. I’ve been an ambassador to a few of my favourite brands, and have always enjoyed the jobs involved. Just be sure not to jump to a yes to quickly – and read the contracts. Many will have a no-competing brand clause in them.
Flash Events – These by far are the jobs I love the most. Think Twitter parties and flash mobs. The objective? Send a direct and clear message quickly over social media, reaching as many people as possible.
So no matter how you choose to run your blog/business, be sure to keep an open mind to all opportunities, and remember these fantastic words… “What’s Your Budget.”
