A tall glass of cold water. So simple…so easy.  Just turn the tap and pour.  Nothing could be much simpler than a glass of water…at least that is the way for us in Canada. Did you know that right now there are 1 million people who don’t have easy access to clean water?  Did you know that 80% of Canadians take clean drinking water for granted?

I do.  I would be lying if I said I didn’t.

Even though there are one billion people in the world who struggle to get clean water, I go through my day not even giving a thought to how lucky we really are.

So when I learned that recent survey  P&G and Walmart Canada found that the majority of us take safe drinking water for granted I wasn’t surprised.  Many of us don’t even realize that one billion people in developing countries do not have the same luxury as we do.

We have it good here… and we need to recognize that.

Did you know:  Diseases from contaminated water kill more children than HIV/AIDS and malaria combined?

This is a big issue.  It’s one that no one person alone can fix.  But when you put great minds together, you can accomplish great things.  Last year P&G and Walmart Canada teamed up to donate one day of clean drinking water for every P&G household product purchased at Walmart or Walmart.ca. The Canadian initiative supported the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) that aims to save one life every hour by 2020 through the provision of two billion litres of clean water each year.

So, chances are you know who Jason Priestley.  Well, he is a supporter of the #cleanwater initiative and he will be joining us on Wednesday February 25th for the #cleanwater Twitter chat as a special co-host!

“More than 1,600 children die every single day from water-borne illnesses,” says Jason Priestley, who recently visited rural batey communities in the Dominican Republic where he was able witness the impact of the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program first-hand. “I believe that everyone should have clean water. As a dad, the thought of children dying every day from preventable diseases caused by lack of clean water is an unfathomable tragedy.”

  1. I was so.proud of my daughter yesterday when she helped her brother to turn off the water while brushing his teeth, telling him how important it is not to waste our “precious” water. Out of the mouth of babes…

  2. I will be there! Can’t wait.
