Faking BBQ this Canada Day #FoodHacks #WhatsCooking

Canada day is just one week away. One week. And I don’t have a BBQ. This could pose a problem for my big Canada Day plans. See, this spring, during our large item clean up I decided that getting rid of the BBQ before buying a new one would encourage me to get out and buy one…unfortunately, that hasn’t happened yet. And now, because my husband and I have been off work for 2, going on 3 weeks due to renovations at the restaurant we work at, going out and spending a bunch of money on a new bbq just wouldn’t be a smart financial decision.

So I have to fake it.  I should be able to pull this off, right?

I had planned on making some very yummy recipes.  Aside from our normal burgers and franks.  Our potato salad, and a delicious garden salad…but the main course of the meal was going to be a yummy looking beef recipe I found on the Kraft website.  Steak with Bulls Eye Butter.

So, how does one make something that looks this delicious without the aid of the gourmet grill?  You hack it.

Instead of cooking this on the BBQ, I’ll be doing it on my electric skillet.  Searing the outside until even the best chef wouldn’t be able to tell the difference from indoor and outdoor cooking.  Then, when the outside looks perfect, I’ll pop it in the oven to make sure the centre of the cut of beef hits temp.

I’ve been known to hack a few recipes in my day.  Changing things up to make them work for me, cooking smarter as to save time.  I know I’m not the only one.  Do you hack your food? No, I don’t mean a bad cut, either. If you do (or if you want to) head over to Kraft’s new website Kraft Food Hacks and check out some of the food hacks they’ve got listed there.  I really like the orange slices hack!  That may have to be something we try this week!

What hack have you done?  What one would you like to do ?  Leave me a comment and tell me about your favorite food hack!

I can’t wait to hear how it goes although I have no doubt that you’ll pull off the hack! I haven’t tried a “food hack” before myself.

I’m sure it will be great! Thanks for the food hack link, I bookmarked it and am looking forward to checking it out…

  3. Excited to hear how it’ll all turn out. I also like to use a little bit of liquid smoke which gives meat a smoky/bbq taste to it without actually being cooked on the grill.

I haven’t really hacked any recipes! When I was a kid we used to bbq in the fireplace, which is the closest hack I’ve done really lol Good luck on Canada Day with your beef!

  5. We had to hack a chocolate cake last week when I realized we only had whole wheat flour. With a few additions, my girls and I managed to turn out a pretty good cake for Father’s Day!

    some good cooking tips

  7. I use spaghetti squash in place of noodles when I make spaghetti or my spaghetti bake and my husband doesn’t even know..lol.what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, plus I’ve done up breaded sweet breads and everyone thought they were eating chicken nuggets, I’m sneaky like that mawhaha
