I am outnumbered. Three boys and one girl…just me and a house full of testosterone. The thing about my boys is they’re all very similar. They are Know-It-Alls. They fall asleep listening to documentaries. They obsess over topics until they know them inside out and backwards…just ask my 4 year old how many moons Jupiter has ( 6 according to him) or the names of all the small parts of a Grandfather clock..he knows them all. His brother knows the creatures of the see…all of them. At least, all that have been discovered to date. He knows their names, their sizes, their traits… And don’t get me started on their Dad, I avoid conversation just because he knows all the answers.
I’m not saying I’m not smart. Actually I’m very smart…smart enough to know not to take them on in a trivia quiz.
Thanks to Netflix we always have a great documentary to watch. And with Earth Day just past, we’ve been concentrating heavily on shows that teach us more about the place we live and what we’re doing to it. As a family we’ve watched a few of these, and enjoyed learning things we didn’t know before…or, well…I didn’t know. All my boys insist they “already knew that”.
I highly recommend watching Addicted To Plastic. The impact that the life-cycle of plastics is having on our Earth is huge! From start (oil refining) to finish (landfill or recycling) plastics are destructive. And though we do need them for somethings, it’s become a material of convince. Give yourself an hour or so to watch any of the above documentaries. It’s a great way to spend time together as a family, learning about our world and coming up with ideas that you can implement within your home to help conserve our planet.
Do you have a favorite thing you do as a family that is good for the planet?
