Meal Plan Monday

I have been talking a lot about meal planning, not just meal planning, but day planning, week planning.  For years I have attempted to get my life organized, and failed horribly.  But with stress and time crunches really beginning to wear on me, it is truly time to get myself into a routine that gives me more time for fun.  So every week I will be writing Meal Plan Monday to share with you what our family will be eating the following week!

I am beginning with meal planning.  And of course, I had to build myself a pretty little meal planner that I can print out each Sunday night and fill in.  If you would like to download it just right click on the image below and save it to your computer…than print.  It fills a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of computer paper, so no resizing is necessary.

Breakfast for us is usually toast and PB or cereal, so I likely won’t ‘plan’ that, but lunch and dinner often leave me baffled…especially with my new, strict $100/week grocery budget.

So here is what we’re eating this week!


  • Lunch: Grilled Ham & Cheese
  • Dinner: Steak & Potato Salad


  • Lunch: Mini Pizza
  • Dinner: Roasted Chicken & Baked Potato & Veg
  • In The Lunch Box: Ham&Cheese Wrap, Orange & Granola Bar


  • Lunch: Chicken Sandwiches
  • Dinner: Hamburger Helper & Veg
  • In The Lunchbox: Chicken Sandwich, Apple & Cookies


  • Lunch: Scrambled Eggs
  • Dinner: Pork Chops & Alfredo Noodles
  • In The Lunch Box: Ravoli, Orange & Cookies


  • Lunch: Egg Salad Sandwich
  • Dinner: Speghetti & Meatballs
  • In The Lunch Box: Egg Salad Sandwich, Apple & Granola Bar


  • Lunch: Mini Pizza
  • Dinner: Leftovers (?)


  • Lunch: Eggs, Bacon & Toast
  • Dinner: Shake & Bake Chicken Legs, Mashed Potatoes and Veg

  2. I always say I am going to start doing this as well, and week after week… I never do. My Sister in Law does this, similar to how you are doing it. She seems a lot less stressed with everything planned out. I wish you luck! It’s time for me to start getting a bit more organized as well.

  3. You’re so awesome! I wish I knew what I was eating for the rest of the week, but I don’t. We are leaving for vacation tomorrow morning. Great idea though, about the weekly meal planning. i really need to do something like this for when I get back.

  5. This is great! I should be doing this as well, I know it would make my life a lot easier that’s for sure! I can’t even think of what we will eat for that day let alone a week. You go girl…:0)

  6. What a great idea! I’ve been meaning to make a meal plan but never have. I bet it would save me money and lots of frustration in trying to figure out what to make.

  9. LOVE!!! It’s less stressful and makes grocery shopping n easier too I find.
    I only meal plan dinners… we’re eating this week: Monday- Burgers/Salad, Tues – Ravioli Bake*, Wednesday – Chicken Cheesy Skillet*, Thursday Hotdogs/Fries/Salad, Friday – Chicken Tacos*, Saturday- Steak&Taters, Sunday – Slowcooker Pot Roast
    *recipes on :)
    While it’s laid out, sometimes we switch up the days, depending on whether we forgot to take the stuff out or if it’s raining out &we don’t feel like bbq’ing burgers.

    Love the meal plan! What we do in our house is sit down with the flyers every other Friday, as I plan our meals for 2 weeks. We plan our meals based on what is on sale ! Has cut our grocery budget substantially!

    • That is a fantastic way to do it! Quite similar to what I’m doing right now! I cleaned out every cupboard and the fridge/freezers last night and inventoried what we have…building our meal plan with that and the flyers :)

  12. I was so much better at meal planning before I went back to work full time. I real should organize myself better and do this. When you have so much less time to figure out meals is when it is crucial to actually sit down and plan out your week! You have inspired me to get back to it! Thank you!

  13. Way to go! With a meal plan in hand watch how less stressful mealtimes become. You may find you waste less food too. For more ideas you might like to check out All the tips and ideas are from me, a registered dietitian and mom with 3 kids of my own. I hope you find a helpful tip or two. The seasonal sample meal plans can be a great way to get started. Just cross out what you don’t like and slot in your family faves. If you are in Ontario you can order a free copy. The perforated meal planning sheets tear out and go on the fridge. Keep them and re-use them or tweak them. IT’s all about working smarter, not longer :)

  14. I try to meal plan as well. It really helps with those mid week mind blocks, and I keep my grocery bill in check and not buying non necessary items.
