Oreos? Delicious. Cream Cheese? Delicious.
Put them together and add some dark chocolate??? Be prepared for the skies to open up and to hear the thunderous chorus of angels. It’s true.
This has to be THE easiet recipe ever. EVER. Here’s what you need:
-One box of Oreo cookies
-One package of cream cheese
-A bag of dark( or milk or white)chocolate chips
Thats it. Seriously.
Toss the cookies in a food processor until they become crumbs, creamy centers and all. Then mix them with room temperature cream cheese. Blend them together very well, until you have a ball of “dough”.
Then just pull of a chunk and roll it in a ball, you can really do whatever size you like, but I made small ones. About a teaspoon of the mixture, give or take a bit.
As you roll the balls, place them on a cookie sheet that is lined with parchment or waxed paper.
Then pop them in the fridge for about 3 hours, or until the are cold and firm.
When they are ready, it will be time to melt the chocolate. Whichever method you want is fine….double boiler or microwave. I like using the microwave, but I always do it in 20 second increments. Chocolate can burn very easily. Once the chocolate is melted, give it a stir, to get any lumps out. Then you use a toothpick (or a fork) and stab an Oreo ball and dip it in the chocolate. I know, right? Yum!
Place them back on the lined cookie sheet and pop them back in the fridge for about 5 hours. Ta da!!! Perfect Oreo truffles.
If you want, you can decorate them. Oreo crumbs, cocoa powder, crushed candy canes. I chose to do some white chocolate drizzle…
I cannot take credit for these, at all. I saw the recipe many times on Pinterest (source), but never really got around to making them. However, when we recently attended the Christmas party for the children at the fire department where my husband volunteers, one of the fire fighters had made them. She said they were so easy to make, and they had turned out beautifully!!! So that gave me the kick I needed to test out the recipe.
I am sooooo glad I did!!
