OK, so last night, shortly before bedtime my 6.5 year old came running up to me…“Mom, where is my backpack??? There is a notice in there you have to see!” First of all, his lack of knowledge of the whereabouts of his backpack doesn’t surprise me…he’s a scattered child…I tell him that he left it in the car… he throws on his boots and coat and flies out the door to get this notice that I just have to see. I’m prepared for some sort of field trip…or science fair. Something I have to sign because he needs it back tomorrow…
It was a little flyer with registration dates for Football camp.
Football Camp?
Really?
Football?
This is a child that isn’t a huge fan of team sports..or sports in general. His soccer career ended at age 4. A child that would rather play video games than run around outside. A child that has never…in his life..watched even 5 minutes of a football game.
But his enthusiasm got the better of me. I mean, when you child who you have to fight to get outside wants to sign up for a team sport…you don’t say no. You go to that website and sign them up! (Though I haven’t paid yet) And hope that the enthusiasm lasts until April when the camp begins.
8 full hours of outdoor fun and a T-Shirt, not bad for $50.
I’m not sure how it will pan out. I know he’ll do his best in the camp, because of his avid video game play, he has amazing hand-eye
coordination! Wide Receiver? Quarterback?
The football season begins in August and if he loves it, I’ll let him join…if he doesn’t, then he’ll just have to finish the camp, because we finish what we start. Either way, he’s learning, he’s playing and he’s getting outside, he’s pushing his own boundaries…and hopefully, he’ll be having fun.
This non-football loving Mama will be cheering him on the whole time.

Get that boy into football camp! I loved playing it in highschool, wish I had when I was younger too.
He’s all signed up! It doesn’t start until April but he’s very excited.
