It’s -30C. It’s 3am. And your 5 year old just woke up vomiting. He’s slightly feverish, obviously not feeling very well, and you’re not sure what do. Should you attempt Gravol? Tylenol? Advil? Will he keep it down? If he doesn’t, should you give it to him again?
This happens to all parents. Each and everyone of you will come to this point in your life when you see your child is not feeling well at all, but the risks of leaving the house to go to Outpatients/Urgent Care outweigh the risks of staying home and finding answers for yourself. In years past, we would call our friends and family to find out their opinions, But at 3am, that is really the last thing we want to do. So in the last few years, we’ve become accustomed to turning to things like facebook, twitter and google to find the answers. Though it’s no replacement for emergency medical care, when you know it’s just a bug, and you’re looking for advice from other moms, having the Internet can be such a relief.
So, at 3am, with laptop in hand, you google “how to reduce a fever and stop vomiting in children”. With the click of a button thousands of articles appear. Written mostly by… Mom Bloggers. Woman who have gone through exactly what you’re going through, and shared their experiences with they world. These woman share in hopes that someday, what they’ve written will help someone get through a rough night, a sickly child, a very stressful moment.
The Mom Blogger shares her experiences, both good and bad, with anyone who reads her site. She sometimes offers a biased opinion, and sometimes a neutral one. It all depends on the experience she is going through at that given moment. But no matter who’s blog you happen to land on at three am. Those key words got you there, and the experiences that she had in the past are now knowledge that you have to weigh against in your own decisions.

Hi Jen,
Both my children recently had the stomach flu, the 3 year old and the baby. It was in the wee hours of the morning. Up until that moment, neither of my children had ever thrown up, and now it was projectile, so I was a bit nervous to say the least. I certainly did review a few Mom blogs and some of them shared details of their kids’ symptoms, as well as the advice that their pediatrician had given them. This was so comforting. Luckily the flu lasted only about 6 hours for both kids.
On behalf of the Ddrops Company, thank you for entering our Blissdom Canada contest. Best of luck to you!
Best regards,
Nat and the Ddrops team
I can’t tell you the number of times I googled illnesses for my kids. Heck I even did it last night as my daughter has severe tonsillitis. The doctor gave her a perscription, but she’s still not feeling better yet so I googled how long it took before she would start to feel better. Thank goodness for the internet!
Great entry, and good luck!
Great post. It’s funny, I just posted mine and then have been reading a few of the other entries. Moms have so many similar stories!
Good luck, Jen! Fingers crossed for you!
