Housework #Fail

Do you ever start your day with so much energy, the best of intentions, and plans to get your house looking perfect.  That’s how my day started.  My house was going to sparkle when I was through with it.  Every room was going to be organized, cleaned, sorted.  Clothes were going to be gone through…Winter clothes put away, summer clothes here to say.

Then I remembered…I have kids.

Funny how I forgot that kids don’t let you clean…they go behind you and mess it up! Right now, as we speak Ben is climbing all over my freshly made bed.  Soon to be jumping on it I’m sure.  Am I going to kick him off…probably not.  He’s content and I’m getting a few second to actually write my thoughts here.

Ben…I love him, but he is THE MESSIEST KID in the world.  Somehow I failed to teach him that when you take something out to play, put it back when your done.  Though, he does it at school…even if I tell him to.  I think he’s too comfy in this little home of ours. As I look around right now I can see a Singing bear, Thomas trains, Books….but when I peer into his bedroom the one thing I can’t see is his floor…again.

So now I’m on day two of THE BIG CLEAN.  Laundry is going, Baby is sleeping and I am typing…NOT cleaning.

I guess I just talked myself into getting back to work!

Happy Saturday!

  1. lol, I know what you mean. I try like crazy to clean and organize, but it seems to fall apart even before I finish. I now just keep it livable for now. This is a battle I can’t win here. With 3 boys, my house is just crazy!

  2. How true! I think sometimes I enjoy my teaching day better than my time at home because it feels so much more productive. I remember during my first mat leave my dad tried to put it in perspective by telling me that if I look after my baby all day, I have been as productive as a person can possibly be. A load of laundry or writing a couple of thank you cards would just be a bonus.

Four years later I’m still working on the mindshift…and the difficult fact that two preschoolers are completely unconcerned about their mother’s neatfreak personality. I also keep reminding myself that an empty nest is pretty easy to keep clean…and the time will come all too quickly.

My kid is in university and still seems to go behind me and mess it up! I guess we have to be happy with managing to do enough to keep total chaos away.
